Hot rolled strength.
A cleaner foundation.
Meet HRPO — Hot Rolled Pickled & Oiled steel. A practical starting point for fabrication and manufacturing when surface cleanliness matters.
Pickling removes the oxide scale formed during hot rolling. A light oil coating then helps protect the cleaned surface during handling and storage. The result is a descaled steel surface for your next production step.
HRPO describes a surface condition, not a single grade. Strength, formability and weldability depend on the steel grade you select.

Hot rolled
Steel is rolled at elevated temperature into coil.

Surface scale is removed through a controlled pickling process.

A protective oil film is applied to the cleaned steel.

Does HRPO mean a particular strength or drawing grade?
No. HRPO refers to the pickled and oiled surface condition. State the required grade or standard, application and acceptance requirements so the material can be quoted correctly.
Can I specify a scratch-free finish and exact cutting tolerances?
Yes—include your surface acceptance criteria, dimensional tolerances, edge requirements and packing instructions in the inquiry. These must be reviewed and confirmed in the quotation before ordering.
